SYDNEY, NSW, Australia - Asian stock markets ended the week mixed on Friday. The U.S. dollar forged ahead.

At the close in Tokyo, Friday, the Nikkei 225 was ahead 159.80 points or 0.58 percent at 27,548.00.

China's Shanghai Composite declined 24.34 points or 0.68 percent to 3,550.40.

The Australian All Ordinaries gained 12.00 points or 0.16 percent to 7,670.90.

The Hang Seng in Hong Kong was the biggest mover, shedding 428.54 points or 1.55 percent to 27,295.30.

The euro slipped to 1.1772 around the Sydney close Friday. The Japanese yen sank to 110.37. The British pound dipped to 1.3743. The Swiss franc was a fraction lower at 0.9198.

The Canadian dollar edged down to 1.2580. The Australian and New Zealand dollars were sold off to 0.7361 and 0.6965 respectively.

Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrials advanced 52.64 points or 0.38 percent to 14,684.60.

The Dow Jones industrials added 25.35 points or 0.07 percent to 34,823.35.

Standard and Poor's 500 inched up 8.82 points or 0.20 percent to 4,367.51.
