Fiji records 93 new COVID-19 cases, one new death

SUVA, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Fiji on Friday recorded 93 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and one more death from the pandemic, bringing the total tally to 50,540 including 584 deaths.

Of the total number of coronavirus infections, 50,470 were detected during the current outbreak that started in April 2021, including 582 deaths.

According to Permanent Secretary for the Health Ministry James Fong, 64 new recoveries from the coronavirus epidemic were reported since the last update, bringing the total number of recoveries from COVID-19 to 36,524 in the Pacific island country.

Currently 111 patients are being treated in hospitals, said Fong.

Fong said 590,386 adults in Fiji have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 419,065 have received their second dose.

He said 14,680 children in Fiji have so far received their first dose.
