SUVA, May 14 (Xinhua) -- There is no threat of a tsunami after people felt an earthquake in the central part of Fiji on Saturday morning, news reports said.

At around 7:40 a.m. local time, people living in Fiji's capital city of Suva felt the ground shake strongly.

But there is no threat of a tsunami, and Director of Mineral Resources Raymond Mohammed said they are getting further information, according to reports on the Fijivillage news website.

Fiji lies on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire," an arc of earthquake and volcanic zones where continental plates collide producing frequent seismic activity.
