SYDNEY, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Australian government body PacificAus Sports has announced a new initiative to support Tennis Australia's four-year program to develop women's tennis in the Pacific region, according to a media release on Monday.

The initiative, called "Pacific Women in Tennis -- Emerging onto the World Stage", was launched during the finals of the Pacific Oceania Junior Championships in Fiji on Sunday.

It is part of the Pacific Women Sport Administration Program, set up by PacificAus Sports to invest in female sports leaders, officials and administrators in rugby union, netball and now tennis in the Pacific.

The new program aims to bring more women and girls to tennis courts, as well as increase the number of in women in leadership roles across the Pacific, along with improved access to safe and inclusive sports competitions for them and more governance of women's sports organizations.
