SUVA, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Fiji's Ministry of Immigration has raised serious concerns over the rising number of foreigners living in the island country without valid immigration permits, urging them to regularize their status by the end of this May or face enforcement action.

While Fiji continues to welcome skilled professionals and workers to help build the nation's workforce, compliance with immigration laws is non-negotiable, an immigration officer was quoted by Fiji Broadcasting Corporation as saying on Tuesday.

The ministry also warned that employing foreign nationals without proper work permits is an offence under the law, and employers must ensure full compliance or risk penalties.

The officer said they remain committed to providing efficient and effective immigration services while safeguarding national security and supporting economic development.

Strict enforcement measures will apply after the deadline, the officer added.
