Fiji, Israel sign agreement to expand cooperation

SUVA, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Fiji and Israel have signed a bilateral agreement aimed at expanding cooperation in key sectors, including agriculture, water management, energy, digital transformation, healthcare and cybersecurity.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference on Tuesday in Suva ahead of the official opening of Israel's embassy in Fiji.

Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said discussions between the two governments showed the partnership had evolved beyond its historic foundations into a modern relationship focused on innovation, technology and development.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said the Pacific is a region with considerable potential for deeper cooperation and investment.

The two leaders also acknowledged the importance of enhancing cooperation in diplomatic training and human resource development.
